Parent Teacher Committee
Welcome to the Parent Teacher Committee section of our web site. Like any fledgling committees, we need your help to provide a link between the parents, students, administration and staff of the College.
To run a successful Parents Teacher Committee we need between 12 – 20 interested people to assist us in meeting our goals and objectives.
Some initial thoughts of how a formal committee can assist the school:
1. The objectives of the committee are:
a. to promote the interests of the school by bringing parents, citizens, students and teaching staff into close co-operation;
b. to assist in providing facilities and equipment for the school and in promoting the recreation and welfare of the students at the school, and
c. to assist by providing advice to the College Management Team on matters that impact on the operation and welfare of the students at the school.
2. The functions of the committee are:
a. to assist and co-operate with the teaching staff in public functions associated with the school;
b. to be responsible for the election of parent representatives to any school committee, association or group as needed;
c. to assist in any matters in which the College Director may seek the co-operation of the committee and to exercise such other functions as requested by the Director;
d. The assets and income of the committee shall be applied solely to further these objectives and functions. No part of the assets and income shall be distributed directly or indirectly to the members of the committee except as bona fide compensation for services rendered or expenses incurred on behalf of the committee.
To assist us in formalising the committee we are having a membership drive and our first ‘official’ meeting on Friday the 28th of November, 2008. The meeting will be held at the school starting at 7 pm.. During this meeting we will be formalising the committee; asking for nominations for President, Vice President, treasurer and Secretary; drafting initial objectives, etc..

Scholarships
Our current ‘working committee’ that has been representing the parents for the past twelve months have been working on a wide range of activities for the benefit of the school. One of the programmes being considered is the establishment of three permanent academic scholarships:
- A year 12 Scholarship – DUX of the school
- A year 9 Scholarship for year 10.
- A year 6 Scholarship for year 7
The committee is looking for your support to help fund these scholarships.
After School/Holiday Program
During this year the parents ‘Working Committee’ has been trying to get an After School/Holiday Program going for the parents and community of St Mary’s Coptic Orthodox College. After many months of letters, surveys and the Bulletin, we were unable to secure the minimum thirty (30) students to run the program.
For the College to run the program, we need thirty (only thirty) students to be enrolled to attend the program; it is too late for this year, but the committee would like to look at having a program for 2009.
The Parent Teacher Committee will be once again sending out details at the start of 2009 for your consideration.
